How we develop our recipes

A good recipe should work the first time you make it. Here’s the path each one follows.

  1. We start from trusted references Classic techniques, well-known cookbooks and cuisines from around the world.
  2. We write it for a home kitchen Realistic quantities, everyday ingredients and separate prep and cook times.
  3. Nicole cooks it at home Sometimes before publishing, sometimes after. Either way, every recipe gets made.
  4. We mark it and improve it Once cooked, the recipe gets a dated Kitchen-tested ✓ mark, and we fix anything that could be clearer.

Measurements: cups and °F first, with grams for baking and other weight-sensitive recipes. Every recipe also lists visual cues, so you know when a dish is done.

How we choose kitchen gear

We can’t test every kitchen product we share on our site ourselves. Some we have tested, and they carry a dated Kitchen-tested ✓ mark in the article. For the others, our buying guides and comparisons are research-based, built on four sources:

  • 📋 Manufacturer specs Power, capacity, materials, accessories and warranty.
  • ⭐ Verified buyer feedback The patterns that come up again and again, not one glowing or angry review.
  • 📖 Published documentation Manuals, care instructions and official product pages.
  • 🏷️ Price vs. ratings Whether a product is worth what it costs next to real alternatives.

What we judge each pick on

  • How well it’s likely to work in a real home kitchen
  • How easy it is to use, clean and store
  • How long it’s likely to last
  • Whether it’s good value for the price

What our labels mean

Every page tells you how much of it comes from our own kitchen.

LabelWhat it means
✓ Kitchen-tested [date]Nicole cooked this recipe, or we used this product, in our own kitchen on that date.
We use itThe type of appliance we cook our recipes with, like an electric pressure cooker. Never a specific brand or model.
Research-basedEverything else, including every product we haven’t tested ourselves. These pages say so at the top, with a “Last verified” date.

How we keep things up to date

  • Every buying guide shows the date its information was last verified.
  • We check the products we link to every week and replace the ones that are no longer available.
  • Recipes are updated when we cook them again or when a reader tells us something could be clearer.

Prices change often. Always check the current price on the retailer’s site before you buy.

About our images

  • 🎨 Food illustrations The food and kitchen images in our articles are AI-generated editorial illustrations, not photos of the exact dish we cooked.
  • 📦 Product photos Product images come from the retailer (Amazon), so you see the real item you’d be buying.

Quick questions

Do you test every product you recommend?

No. We test some products ourselves, and those carry a dated Kitchen-tested ✓ mark. Everything else is research-based, and the page tells you so at the top.

Why isn’t every recipe marked Kitchen-tested yet?

Nicole sometimes cooks a recipe after it’s published. The mark appears, with the date, as soon as she has made it.

Do affiliate links cost me more?

No. The price is the same for you. The retailer pays us a small commission, which helps keep the site free.
